" Landslide Monitoring Using High Resolution Aerial Photographs"
By: Jon Foster
Abstract:
In order to protect people and mitigate property damage caused by landslides, it is important to characterize a landslide before it occurs. By surveying potential landslides, its movement can be tracked and its probability of failure can be determined. On sites that are failing retrogressively, the growth rate and size can be tracked to extrapolate when it will reach key infrastructure. To perform such surveys various technologies have been used including: Total Station Global position systems, LASER Scanners and Photogrammetry. Using Photogrammetry from high resolution photographs, a detailed 3-D model of a potential landslide can be generated. Thus allowing for detailed monitoring of a potential landslide over time.
