Dr Rajani is a Principal Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). He has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from University of Alberta, M.Eng. in Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics from McGill University, and B.Sc. (Civil) from Imperial College, London.
Dr Rajani has expertise in the behaviour, performance, analysis and design of municipal infrastructure: water mains, sewers, trench design, trench backfills, frost loads, sidewalks, unfrozen and frozen soil-structure interaction, oil and gas pipelines performance; infrastructure related to oil and gas industry; offshore structures and foundations, finite element analyses.
Dr. Rajani joined National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in 1992 and since then he has established strong research group to address issue on buried infrastructure (water and sewer) and has also established interaction with municipalities, public utilities and related manufacturing industries. His current work is related to the development of decision tools for the renewal, rehabilitation and replacement planning of water mains, risk assessment of large transmission mains, performance of grey cast, ductile and PVC water mains, trenchless technology, sidewalks, trench backfills. Dr. Rajani has written or co-authored over 200 publications of which over 45 are in refereed journals or conference proceedings.
