INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE GRADUATE STUDENTS

Program Requirements

Prospective graduate students are encouraged to contact the professor or professors whose research interests most closely match their own. It is not necessary to pursue graduate studies in the same discipline as one's undergraduate degree. Furthermore, thesis projects may be co-supervised by faculty members from more than one Department. Click here for a description of current graduate projects.

* Please note that in order to be considered for major Queen's research awards, applicants must be accepted by March 1.

Program Enrollment

How to enroll in the Collaborative GeoEngineering Program:

1. Enroll in one of the four ‘home’ departments with a thesis supervisor connected with the GeoEngineering Centre. Satisfy the coursework, thesis and other requirements of the specific member (home) program in which you enroll.
   
2. Obtain and complete enrollment form from the GeoEngineering web site and return to Jolanda de Groot, GeoEngineering Centre, Ellis Hall, room 105b.
   
3. Participate in a “GeoEngineering Seminar” graduate course; this regular seminar series features presentations from faculty members, graduate students, visiting practitioners and researchers, one evening each week; this common learning experience exposes students to examples of research and practice in all of the different areas of GeoEngineering; this course appears as an extra course on your transcript, or substitutes for existing seminar courses where the “home” program has a compulsory seminar requirement; participation would be two terms for the Masters, and four terms for the doctoral degrees.
   
4. Enroll in seminar series (GENG840) through QCard or at the registrar’s office. DO NOT REGISTER AGAIN THE 2ND YEAR AS THIS WILL SHOW AS A RETAKE ON YOUR TRANSCRIPT.
   
   Take one GeoEngineering course from outside your home department; at least 20% of selected coursework must be in GeoEngineering from your home program, and at least 20% from a program outside your “home” program; this ensures you share your learning experiences with other GeoEngineering students, and promotes interdisciplinary education;
   research degree (doctoral and research masters) students undertake their thesis project in one or more of the GeoEngineering sub-fields; coursework masters students choose a coursework degree project in one of these sub-fields (the coursework masters is referred to as a Pattern II Masters at Queen’s University).

Collaborative Graduate Program in GeoEngineering

The Ontario Council of Graduate Studies approved a new GeoEngineering Collaborative Graduate Program at Queens-RMC. Students enrolled in any one of these four graduate programmes may choose to participate in the GeoEngineering Program, and will receive official recognition as having Specialization in GeoEngineering.
